Award winning verteran players make up this powerful mix that deliver their very own brand of greasy blues, red hot R&B, rollicking rock and swingin' boogie. Only one word can describe what goes on during a Bitter Sweet Rose performance........FUN. Whether for audiences of 5 or 500, their commitment to have a good time remains constant.
Collectively, the band has worked with or opened for such greats as Lucky Peterson, Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, The Four Tops, Buckwheat Zydico, The Toller Brothers and James Cotton.
BSR organist Jim Wozniak has been a staple on the local music scene and is noted for his roar to a whisper B-3 stylings. His experience working as a single or with a 9 piece horn group playing blues, R&B, gospel, country and jazz has allowed him to accompany national acts including Koko Taylor, Jimmy Reed, James Peterson, Louis Prima and Eddie Taylor. Touring with W.C. Handynominee Chris Beard and Blues legend Joe Beard, Jim has played the Chicago and Pocono Blues Festivals and opened for scores of greats such as Carey Bill, Long John Hunter, Bob Margolan, Big Bill Morganfield(Muddy's son), Pine Top Perkins, Snokey Pryor, Irma Thomas, Tommy Castro and Shemika Copeland. Jim's superb soloing and polished stage presence has warmed the hearts of listeners and earned him the respect of a mentor.
You just can't help but notice when vocalist Donna Rose steps up to the stage and then lays it down in the groove with that rock'em sock'em style of delivery. Her fun loving demeanor and ability to "TURN ON" a room has endeared her as an audience favorite from the start. With roots in swing, R&B and theatre, Donna found her niche in the blues. Twice named Top Blues Vocalist by the Buffalo Music Awards, her voice continues to be heard in commercials, local NPR promos and feature guest spots.
The collaboration between vocalist Donna Rose and blues super organist Jim Wozniak gave birth to the powerful sounds of BITTER SWEET ROSE.
